Specifically what are you wanting to access the microphones for?

Joe, I've seen this many times with apps on OS, says app needs access to microphone. And easy path, can't remember it now. But IOS I have no idea. For a music app on ios.

Man with verification for things and now access, and security approval with Catalina for everything, I wish there was a preference called leave me alone, it's ok!

But I guess with world become more sick crazy with hacking, this stuff gets worse and worse.

In my experience the request for an app to access the microphone only happens the first time the app needs access and then only if the app needs access. That may sound strange, but if the music app you are using on iOS does not ask to use the microphone, then you will not see the request. The app itself may have a preference or setting to turn on a microphone (like tapping the dictation microphone in Messages). Otherwise, what in this particular music app requires a microphone?

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

In iOS Settings > Privacy you will find you can control apps access to Contacts, Calendars, reminders, Photos, Bluetooth, Local Network, Microphone, Speech Recognition, Camera, Health, Research Sensor & Usage, Homekit, Media & Apple Music, Files & Folders, Motion & Fitness. As Ira L. indicated the app must first request access to the device/feature/function which happens the first time you open the app. After that, you can turn that specific access on or off at will in Settings > Privacy.

The microphone, camera, etc. approvals are all the result of exploits that permitted malware to gain control of those devices for nefarious purposes, mostly on non-Apple devices, but Apple added these permission out of an abundance of caution. The same reason Apple is requiring App Store developers to reveal what and when they phone home and permit users to limit what they reveal. Annoying in the short term, but could be a genuine benefit in the long term.

Very interesting app. It says just plug the guitar into the iPhone, so the guitar must access the app directly via the iPhone. It is not clear to me where the microphone would enter the picture.
