At DuckDuckGo I recently read this piece about a browser called Tor, which purports to add anonymity to web browsing by adding "layers" to your route (hence the reference to an onion). I also did a bit more reading at the Tor Project site. This appears to be an interesting concept. Has anyone at FTM had any experience with it, or done more than my short bit of research? Any thoughts as a result?

I have TOR and my observations are...

• The browser is a modified version of Firefox.
• There are three levels of hiding your identity. At the highest level few commercial sites will run because they use identifiable technologies such as JavaScript (which is deactivated at the higher security levels).
• If you are going to put up. With TOR’s speed and other limitations, there is not much point in NOT using the highest security setting.
• Onion routing drastically slows response times
• If I were dealing with information with the potential for serious or grave harm to national security I would definitely use TOR.
• TORs limitations and speed make it impractical, annoying, if not unusable for day to day use unless you are in a hostile regime.

As I said, I have TOR and played with it off and on for a while, but I never use it otherwise. I occasionally use Malwarebytes Privacy VPN (mostly if I am traveling). I also have CyberGhost VPN but Malwarebytes Privacy has proven faster albeit more expensive. I probably will not renew Malwarebytes Privacy as the cost/benefit ratio isn't there for me. Cyberghost VPN is fast enough for my modest needs, and I bought a lifetime license for it on a one time bargain deal.
