OS 10.12.6

I always use apple mail but for the first time, the in box shows (1) new email but it isn't there! I tried shutting down the mail and reopening it. I then went to bell mail and it also shows (1) inbox but again there is nothing there. I have never encountered this before. I'm expecting an email (from imgur) and I wondering if that is the one.
Has anyone had this problem?

Disregard my post. I seems I hadn't opened an email quite a way down the list.

For future reference you can also try Mailbox>Rebuild from the Mail menu.

On a Mac since 1984.

I had the same issue for the first time during this past month. Was driving me nuts that MAIL was showing an "unread" email, but I could not identify or locate it.

I did the REBUILD and the culprit went away . . . er, at least on my desktop computer. An "unread" indicator still shows up, however, when I open my MAIL on my IPAD.

Any ideas how also to clean up the MAIL APP on the iPAD?

Many thanks,

This article talks about iPhones, but it should apply to an iPad. Spoiler alert: the solution may not apply to your situation.
