My computer gave off an error message and said my computer shut down because of an error. I've never had this happen before. Thanks.

Hi, Rita,
The only thing in there that means anything to me is: BSD process name corresponding to current thread: com.apple.WebKit
That sounds like Safari was involved, and it's possible that only Apple can translate the rest.
Let's see if it's recurring.

An error occurred in Webkit (most likely Safari although webkit shows up I Mail and several their party apps as well) that created a condition the system could not handle. For a more complete explanation you would need to talk to one of Apple's Webkit developers (a solid grounding in software engineering would be of great benefit in that conversation ) There is no indication of what triggered the incident and whether it was hardware or software in origin. If this happens again you might want to run some diagnostics. (I recently had a spate of unexpected shutdowns, occasional inexplicable errors, etc that turned out to be the result of a swollen battery. — three cheers for appleCare!)
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Thank you. I will wait and see if it happens again. I still have AppleCare until June 2020, so I will call them if it should recur. WebKit was indeed running, however that dump is for a kernel panic. Something happened deep in the kernel that should never have happened, apparently with the process scheduler.
Broadly speaking, no user space program should ever be able to panic a kernel. The fact that it did uncovered a bug in the kernel that only Apple can fix.

OK, that sounds scary. It happened again. So, I looked online and it said that one thing that could cause it would be a peripheral. I was to unplug any peripherals, shut the mac down and reboot, leaving the peripheral unplugged. If the error message didn't happen again, it's the peripheral causing it. So far, after doing that, it hasn't happened again. Maybe tomorrow I will replug in my Logitech speaker and see if it happens again. If so, I know what the culprit is. Thanks for responding. I am not sure where you got your advice but this Apple Support article is the place to start troubleshooting kernel panics. From past troubleshooting experience I would start with the least expensive items such as cables, hubs, and devices including keyboards and mice. Just because something has been working for a long time doesn't mean it cannot or has not failed. NOTE: Your Logitech speaker may be fine, but the connecting cable may be shorting out internally.

I can't find the site I used just now, but you may be right. Unfortunately the Logitech speaker's cable is wired into the speaker so I can't replace it. I've gone another day without using the speaker, and I haven't had a problem again. I will plug it in tomorrow and if there is a problem, I will toss the speaker and try to get a new one.
