Start-up Monitor Display Screen

Yesterday I started up the MacBookPro from cold, as usual. (I always shut down when not in use.)

The screen appeared in shades of pink - not the standard grey sequence. The Apple Logo was in GREY on the left side and DARK PINK on the side with the bite out of it. Then it stayed this way while the loading bar made its way. When completed, the screen turned light grey - solid, no images, no home page, nothing. It stayed this way for several minutes and then the computer re-booted on its own.

This routine happened severals times in a row, so I did a forced shut down with the power button. Then re-started in Recovery Mode and ran FIRST AID in Utilities. The issue seems to have been fixed in that the usual start up sequence appeared in its true colours, etc. Users Log In Page appeared, as expected.

HOWEVER . . . is this an indication of a larger problem to come? Some kind of warning that the MacBookPro is about to implode?

Many thanks,

The web community says this is an indication of a hardware problem, possibly a bad connection, and it can be intermittent. Suggestions include running Apple's Hardware Diagnostic Test and/or taking it in to Apple.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Thanks.

I just ran the AHT (in the extended version) which took about 75 minutes.

When done, it stated that there were no HARDWARE problems detected.

Perhaps the display/monitor issue I described in the OP was just a "one of" anomaly . . . will see how things go.

Many thanks,

Be aware the Apple Genius Desk has far better and more complete testing tools than is available to the general public — even the extended AHT. There is a known issue with some MacBook Pro models with the cable connecting the monitor which Apple has fixed — even out of warranty.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?
