OS 10.12.6
I downloaded 7 movies and transferred them into my Lacie HD. Showing them as icons, (1) does not appear and showing them as listings, (2) do not appear one of which is the one missing as an icon.
I have dragged them into the HD several times and each time being told they are already there.
I can play them both from the desktop.
Anyone know why this is happening?

No, but many reasons are possible. Try deleting them from the Lacie HD, run a disk repair utility on the Lacie HD, and transfer them again.
Your disk directory could be corrupted or…?

Ira is right when he says "many reasons are possible". If his suggestion does not work then... - Do the other five movies play normally?
- How are you downloading the files — through Finder your browser or what?
- What kind of a site are you downloading them from?
- Do the five movies that are showing up normally play correctly on your computer?
- What is the format of the downloaded files?
- If you do a ⌘G on the desktop and enter the name of your LaCie drive (or better yet the path to the folder on the LaCie drive the files were downloaded to) do the two missing files appear then?
- If you do a Get Info on the file that appears only as an icon what do you see under "General" and "Sharing and Permissions"?
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

The commandG does not appear on desktop.
jaybass ⌘G is a standard shortcut to the Finder menu item Go > Go To Folder so try bypassing the shortcut and use the Finder Menu.

Joe,
That "go to folder" takes me to the library cache which I trash every few days. The trouble is, I cannot remove the 2 files from the HD obviously because they don't show.
Question, when the Lacie HD is open, are those files included in "all my files?"
I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the culprits. Would transferring them to another HD make any difference? I appreciate your indulgence but I seem to be at a dead end.

I thought I would drag those 2 movies. into the Lacie share icon and from there I dragged them into the other part of the HD and they downloaded!
Upon checking the HD, they still did not show. Perhaps, although they play from both parts of the HD and from the desktop, they might be corrupted?
I have them on a thumb drive ( they from there too) so I'll play them whenever.

if your hard drive is formatted for windows (which most are by default) you may be having problems with characters in the file name that aren't allowed on windows. this can have rather random results, including weird error messages and files that don't show up or can't be accessed once there. rename the original files to remove odd characters - stick to a-z, 0-9, and space for maximum compatibility. (you may have to blank the name and start over since some odd ascii can look pretty close to "normal", like "educated quotes")
movie previews can't always be made/displayed. It just depends on whether or not Finder can preview the movie to grab a frame from it. If you double click and VLC launches for example, that's NO guarantee that Finder can render it. You can probably paste a custom icon image into the Get Info window if you want one bad enough.
