Seems fitting for Labor Day ... The Weirdest Parenting Trends Of The Past 100 Years[Put in the proper context, President #45's (dys)abilities* and behavior are eminently explicable, even if not forgivable. (* Yes, dys-, as opposed to dis-; look it up.)]

Shucks, when I read the sub-heading "Letting Babies Cry So They Wouldn't Become Socialists" my first thought was that crying produced some sort of chemical/political change in the brain. Wow! What an amazing concept. Could the type and duration of crying prevent one from becoming a Communist, Democrat, Republican, Fascist, etc.? Maybe they were on to something. But no, it merely meant that by letting a baby cry when s/he wanted something and not giving it to them conditioned them not to expect everything be provided to them on demand, a la socialism (?!). Hmm. Maybe instead it would make them despots as adults—demand and take whatever they want, whenever they want.

Most parents are too young to responsibly raise a child, but the biological clock dictates that, by the time you're mature enough to be a parent, you can't have kids. Or, as some say, your parents ruin the first half of your life and your children ruin the second half.

I remember being told that my father's mother potty trained her children with a teacup, which always seemed strange to me, and I'm now guessing that she potty trained them as newborns.

The main point is that guests should not drink from that teacup.

The main point is that guests should not drink from that teacup. Why not? Unless there's a urinary tract infection, urine is sterile. That's why people can drink it to survive when necessary. Recycling at its very best. Even the astronauts do it. If you're worried, run the teacup through the dishwasher or otherwise 'disinfect' it.

Urine may be sterile, but poop is not.

It is not. That is a myth from 1950s shoddy research, that somehow keeps being repeated. That's why people can drink it to survive when necessary. But you shouldn’t do it even then. Your body uses it to get rid of salt and toxins, worsening the situation often, if you are dehydrated and have a weakened immune system. Even the astronauts do it. They filter/separate out the bad stuff, though. And they get the water from everywhere, including urine, but also shower water, sweat and breath vapor from the air (93% efficient).

There are indeed low levels of bacteria in most healthy people's urine, but not enough to be problematic if it's drunk. I would rather drink urine than tap water from many places (eg, Detroit) or untreated water from many mountain streams (warning: giardia). But to each his own.
