Outstanding insight!

Does "good shag" mean that she needs good sexual intercourse?

Back up everything you can't afford to lose: documents, mail, movies, music, photos, and other data and settings.

That seems to be the 5th (and final) entry in Apple's Dictionary. [using the command-control-D popup only shows 3 definitions (all nouns), but clicking on the 'More...' button brings up the full application. Fortunately (perhaps), the Thesaurus section is blank.]

You forgot the "of equal or lesser value" part. grin

Wouldn't you say, though, that "good sexual intercourse" is nowhere near crude enough to be truly synonymous with "a good shag?"

Hi dianne,

I am going to be presumptuous enough to hypothesize that your purpose in asking this question was a bit more subtle than simply to confirm your suspicion as to the meaning of the phrase in question.

Apparently, your purpose was a bit too subtle for the other participants in this thread to discern. Or else none of them were inclined to respond; but if that's the case, I wonder why? Perhaps (what I think is) your implicit commentary—on the absurdity of men attributing the random unpleasant demeanor of a woman to sexual frustration—is too unpalatable to be examined.

To be fair, in my experience it's an equal-opportunity quip. It's just as common now to say a guy needs to get laid or for a woman to make the remark about a woman. Sexual frustration is a fun sarcastic scapegoat all around. We can probably thank TV sitcoms for that affirmative action breakthrough.

I'll take your word for it about who's saying what to who but, if that's what passes for an affirmative action breakthrough, it's no wonder society hasn't progressed far enough on the important issues like pay equity and equal opportunities in employment.

Personally, I've never noticed dianne being either shy or circuitous in posting her objections to posts.

Oops. Well, I'll just go stand in the corner now with the others who missed subtleties.

(Although we do have to do much better with affirmative action)

At least your quoting me out of context is somewhat mitigated by the proximity of our posts.

As a bartender who's presided over many "girls' nights out" I've found that when the girls get going the conversation is frequently far more explicit and raunchier than any bunch of longshoremen can imagine...so much so that it gets embarrassing at times.

Yeah... We're guilty of being men, but that's not to say that the "macho" territory is exclusively ours.
