When I launch quicktime, 10.4 it bring up a finder window. Weirdest thing ever seen app do on launch. NO preference. So stumped, thanks.

No so weird. Many applications require something on which to work—a specific file, an image, a clip a document, etc. If you click on "Cancel" in the Finder window you will go directly to the application and its menus. From there you can choose something to do, usually from the "File" menu.

Having said all that, when I open QT 10.4 it goes straight to nothing and just gives me the menu bar for QuickTime.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

What do you do to launch QuickTime Player?

Thanks Ira, hmmm
Yeah, when do new screencast it goes away, but it's a visual nuisance. Any way to not have it come up?

And is there timer for QT?

You might take a look a Screenium 3 if QT doesn't hack it for you.

If you're clicking on the folder itself, of course a Finder window will open...or are you being careful to click on QTP within the folder and the window is opening anyhow?

I wonder if it's a Dock issue?

Can you drag that folder out of your Dock and then drag it back in?

Just launched qt from app folder, not from dock so not the dock, The nuisance folder in not tied to dock. It's a finder window, kind of like save as window, in middle center is a dropdown, icloud, desktop and few other options. And done button lower right.
