Any bets on how long the MacFixit name will remain on the new page? frown

Wonder if @mac_fix_it will keep tweeting? Anyhow, without the forums MFI is just a pretty basic blog format, so I guess it doesn't really matter where it is.

So when does VersionTracker become part of Download.com?

Been on cnet forums yesterday. Looks like the guys don't know what to do. The forum has no structure. The software forum goes by posts with no classification. Very few people post. Deplorable...

Reminds me of what Andy Ihnatko said about eWorld (Apple's initial attempt at an online community). I have to paraphrase here, because i can't seem to google it (perhaps Macworld magazine was not online at the time?):

"You can log in, put your feet up, and only hear crickets chirping."

I have been hanging out at CNET off and on for a few days. I posted a reply in this thread advising the OP to come to Fine Tuned Mac. Evidently, my post was deleted. I tried to repost and when I clicked Submit, I got to an irrelevant page. My repost was not registered. I guess that CNET doesn't like the competition.

Has anybody else had this experience?

I've seen a few of your invitations over there, and macnerd10's as well. I'm surprised they've stayed up as long as they have.

I flatter their mods sometimes grin
Why not? They usually make sense in their posts.

Sorry... between ARS Technica, MacNN, macosxhints and FTM my forums plate is full. Additional anonymous lurking i do at MacTech and AppleInsider (and occasionally the official Apple Discussions). If some highly interesting issue arises i'd probably pop over to (the new) MacFixIt and read their take on it, but -- as far as daily grazing goes -- i haven't dropped by there, except once for a curious peek.

[edit: if i owned OSX Server, i'd probably frequent http://afp548.com/ more regularly.]

That raises the possibility that you may, in some way, have been blacklisted; have you done any experimentation?

I haven't experimented yet (I have bigger fish to fry) but I'll give it a try and let you know what happens.

I hadn't logged into Version Tracker for quite awhile and, when I tried it, I got a message that my account was suspended. I tried it again at CNET and the message came up saying that there was no record of my account. VT/CNET didn't even have the courtesy to tell me privately. I suppose that I should be grateful that CNET is incompetent because my reply to Joyss in this CNET thread hasn't been deleted. Probably, the Search function at CNET works as poorly as the rest of their software so their mods couldn't find it.

I suppose that I could establish a different account with a new email address but I really don't want to participate over there. So, I'm not going to bother.

That's a sad commentary, but rudeness is rampant these days.

I guess they don't have a member's profile page, with content similar to ours, that would allow them to see all of your posts on one page?

In that case, then, I guess they either didn't look or didn't care. (Sorry for not being as ambitious as you were.)

If anyone knows Fotogra's email or cares to reply to him in this CNET thread, I'm sure that it would be appreciated. My guess is that Fotogra doesn't know about FTM. Please post a link to FTM.

Of course, you may be suspended by CNET but that seems like a small price to pay.

A week after I asked a question at CNET support, I received an answer.

The question was:
Quote:
Customer - 09/29/2009 03:34 PM
When logging into Version Tracker, I get a message that my account was suspended. Why did you do this? Why didn't you have the courtesy to send me an email to that effect? In addition, when I try to log into CNET Forums, I get a message that there is no record of my account.

CNET's response was:
Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for your query. It does appear as if your account was suspended. We do not have any direct insight into who did this, but we apologize that you were not told when it happened. The message that there is no record of your CNET Forums account is likely also tied to the suspended account status. The note attached to your account says that you have been redirecting people to or otherwise advertising other forums on our own.

Regards,
Jen
CNET TechTracker Support

I cheerfully plead guilty to all charges. cool
