I have a favorite extension that still works on my old computer but is no longer available by the developers.
I looked in my extension library and found it. I wanted to air drop it to my new computer. When I clicked on it to open it, it said there was an error. I went back to look at my extensions library to recheck on it, and it had completely disappeared!
Where else can I look for it? Why did it disappear?

in a few cases the os will make a new folder like "Extensions (incompatible)" in the same folder as the extensions

When the installer identifies incompatible apps, extensions, etc. it will place them in an appropriately folder at the boot drive root or sometimes on the desktop. Unfortunately, I don't recall the folder's name at the moment. If it is there it is only for our information as the app or whatever will not run on the new system or in some cases may even damage the new system if you run it.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Damage it? It's just a little plugin. I guess I need to clarify. I installed Sierra on my old Mac today and it incorporated that app into the extensions. I just can't find it to transfer it to my new Mac. When the installer identifies incompatible apps, extensions, etc. it will place them in an appropriately folder at the boot drive root or sometimes on the desktop. Unfortunately, I don't recall the folder's name at the moment. Have you looked for it in your external Mavericks clone?
More: Since it's apparently irreplaceable, I suggest that if you find it, you do a control-click > Compress before you install it, so you'll have it backed up.

I found it when I was on the external drive but once I clicked on it, I got an error message and then when I tried again, it just disappeared into thin air. Now I cannot get back to that library on either computer for some reason. It should just be click on Go in Finder and the Option. No so anymore. I am trying to use SuperDuper now and am at a standstill. It says after I partition the ext. drive (already done) and name the partition, I am supposed to click the "apply" button but I don't see one. Anyway, still happy I have my old MBP up and running!
