Those of us of a certain age have fond memories of Heathkit (and Dynakit also). Dynakit may not be with us, but Heathkit is being resurrected. Have fun looking at their first kit in years. Precision RF Meter - HM-1002 - pre-order

I spoke too soon. Here are all their products

Thanks for posting that. It brings back fond memories of Heathkit projects past from the mid 50s. I spent all my tech money at Heathkit until I got my hands on an Ohio Scientific computer and graduated from there to IBM mainframes.

Oh yeah!

Sweet memories of vaporizing flux and solder! Not so fond memories of burning flesh ... but wonderful nonetheless.
Only those in the know would know. tongue grin

I only built one Heathkit, an auto multimeter that I used happily for many years when it was still possible for a non-mechanic to work on his car. Back then, there were carburetors, and distributors had points and condenser. (The younger generation doesn't know what those were.) I also built Dynakits, including an amp, pre-amp and tuner. They were fun to build and a good money-saver.

Many fond memories. Well, absent the cold-solder joints.

FWIW, in the current vernacular, my soldering still sucks...

my first electronics work was performed with a soldering gun and what must have been 1/8" wide acid-core solder. (the flux core in that stuff was wider than the solder i use today!)

My first heath kit was their design experimenter which included a breadboard, two potentiometers, two fixed AC sources, a sine/square wave generator, and two adjusable 15v (+ and -) power supplies.

Back then, the most valuable electronics tools I owned were my breadboards and my radio shack DMM.
