Were I to “forget” an established wifi network, would it be forgotten until the next time I find/access it and again log in, or will it be forgotten forever?

It will still appear for you to choose as a network, but it will no longer remember that you have previously logged onto it or that you have ever entered the password.....it will be like new to you.

That's great news. I suspected as much, but guessing... well, just because something seems logical & reasonable (at least to moi) just don't make it so.

it will also affect the order it joins in. Saved SSIDs with passwords tend to be at the top of the list, with public ones you've connected to before below them. You can edit the order of the list via drag and drop in network system preferences if that's all you need to be doing. Deleting and re-adding it will put it at the bottom of its group, which may end up moving it down if that's what your goal was, making it "less preferred".

np. Go to network preferences, select airport, click advanced. the first tab that comes up, 'wi-fi", will let you set the order of preference via drag and drop for all previously joined access points. New points are added to the bottom of the list, but iirc they are in two soft "groups", those with a password and those without, where the "withouts" are in a cluster below the "withs", making them less preferred.
