I just noticed this "improvement" in 10.12.2: If you go to Safari > Preferences > Passwords, you must enter your administrative password to unlock them. In the past, you could get to that Passwords pref pane but you had to select individual passwords and unlock them one at a time. Now, all are unlocked. Merely click on the one you want and it changes from dots to the actual password. When you switch to another pref pane and switch back, you have to unlock them again. It's actually somewhat more convenient than the old method.

Dare I say that they took their lead from Mozilla's Firefox, there that's always been the case.

Hmmm... I just installed v 10.0.2 (for El Cap) and that change wasn't incorporated into it.

I also have Safari 10.0.2 also (full version is 10.0.2 (12602.3.12.0.1). That hasn't changed since 10.12.1 so I assume that this "feature" is due to the Sierra update.

My Safari is 10.0.2 (11602.3.12.0.1), but it was just released yesterday. (Note the red. Is your version number a typo?)
Wouldn't it be strange for the macOS update to affect Safari without changing its version number?
Just to see if we're on the same page: in the Passwords pref pane I check a box that says "Show passwords for selected websites", I'm asked to authenticate, and even if I only selected one website to start, I can then click on all other websites and see their passwords. (That's been my experience since Safari 10 was released.)

My Safari version number is correct. I copied and pasted it to avoid a typo. You're probably right about clicking on all other websites; I never tried it that way.
