Trump has indicated he will be spending most of his time in New York and plans to visit the White House only on occasion. And while in New York he will never ever talk to his family about his businesses.

He could...let the fools who pay taxes eat the cost of its upkeep and security. Speaking of which, it must really irk him to have had to pass up on the "tax-free" $400,000 salary.

He'd achieve those gains in addition to the $400k. Forgoing it is simply not his style; I imagine he was embarrassed into doing so by (a real billionaire) Bloomberg's having done so.

Trump has indicated he will be spending most of his time in New York and plans to visit the White House only on occasion. Yeah, good luck on that one. History and his advisors (as vile as they might be as individuals) would dictate that a sitting president not only could not make that work (for any number of practical reasons*) but would also make him to be more of a flibbertigibbet than he already is, which would in turn make him more of a sick joke than a 'majestic' presence on the international scene. No matter how you cut it, in the latter arena he's just plain chum in the water. (* For example, to think that the Secret Service could deal with security in NYC in anything like a reasonable ± cost-effective fashion compared with DC which is geared for such is an inane suggestion. There's a good chance that he would be forbidden to do such on more than a short-term, occasional basis. He'd stand a better chance at Trump Tower in beautiful downtown Aleppo. Maybe ... the world can only hope ...)

Yes, Bloomberg, a rich person who actually does care about the little guy; a man who gave significant amounts of his money to help the less fortunate of New York: a man for whom "help the working class" wasn't a meaningless campaign slogan. It's interesting that there are about 80 billionaires in New York and yet most people could likely only name two - Bloomberg because of his generosity and Trump because of his greed.

Donald Trump just held a 90 minute meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister and the President-elect had his daughter Ivanka attend the meeting. And, it seems, Trump accepted a pretty nice gift. It would appears that Trump doesn't understand the meanings of either ethics or optics.

That was a deciding point regarding some of the items involved in the Clinton furniture episode.

Trump seems to have had many conversations with foreign officials on his personal cell phone, without any of the protections that one would expect of such communications. I'd say his phone activity has a "personal email server" kind of ring to it.
I wonder when we can expect his followers to start chanting: "Lock him up! Lock him up!"

I'm ready to lock him up right now (and believe me, I was not a supporter). It seems that we're in for a kleptocracy. Wilbur Ross, Billionaire Investor, Is Said to Be Trump’s Commerce Pick. Trump acts as if the presidency gives him a license to print money.

I wonder when we can expect his followers to start chanting: "Lock him up! Lock him up!" I'm no way an expert on the subject, and I'm sure there are grey areas, but it appears to me that Trump is dismissive of anything that's not codified law. If it's merely protocol or accepted behavior or a nicety it doesn't apply to him, and he can apparently ignore it with impunity. But, for instance, asking the President of Argentina to facilitate a real estate deal for a company from which he's supposed to be removed (about which he says he doesn't even care) during the course of a heads-of-state phone call looks like it's clearly a breach of ethics and an abuse of power. I suspect that his admiration for Putin is based on nothing other than his having amassed a $40 billion fortune at the expense of his people.

If 48 Democrats vote as a block it only takes three Republicans... I wonder if there are three who are willing to cross that line and anger him?

An additional attraction would be that Putin is also a man who makes his friends very wealthy and who is an expert in hiding wealth. Birds of a feather….

I don't think we've got to worry about Trump enriching his friends; he hasn't got any, and besides that, he wants it all for himself. Nor do I think we've got to worry about him hiding ill-gotten wealth, because he'll be stupid enough to brag about it. The surprising thing about his adoration of Putin is that he doesn't like smart people, and Putin is clearly waaay smarter than he is.

I've read that he's been trying to get the rights to build a hotel in Moscow since 1996… And, throughout the primaries and the election campaign, Trump seemed awfully awfully anxious to cozy up to Vladimir Putin. After three weeks of watching Putin's planes bomb hospitals in Aleppo, and seeing children and other innocent victims dug out of the rubble, one would think those events alone alone should be enough to cause any reasonable person to conclude "America must keep its distance from this monster". I guess it remains to be seen which wins out, money or morality.

I guess it remains to be seen which wins out, money or morality. To whom are you ascribing reasonableness, and do you really think that "which wins out" hasn't already been decided? Trump proudly wears the mark of Cain as a badge of honor!

My daughter just sent me these two links: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comi...n-29-years-ago/ (Re Doonesbury) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comi...t-explains-why/ (Re Dilbert) My response was: Please quit sending me this kind of stuff; reading it is like reading horror stories while lying in bed worrying about the bogeyman.
I’m scared skataless by the reality and the possibilities, I’m emotionally drained from trying to deal with them, and I’ve had it with being reminded about them. I don't want to read anything more about the man until his name has been changed from Donald to Morty, and in keeping with that sentiment I'm bailing out of this thread and am going to try my damnedest to avoid even the front pages of the media. Adios muchachos caballeros!
