I chose to update ios at night, put it on this charger stand, but in the morning, it was not updated. I said, "verifying", and then updated in the morning? Anyway to prevent that next time? Thanks.

In a word NO. The iOS install is in two steps…
  1. Download (which has an included step of verifying the accuracy of the download)
  2. Install
Each step has to be manually initiated. I don't know why, nor can I speculate a reason, why Apple has chosen this two step process, but I seriously doubt that it was chosen arbitrarily. But who knows, iOS 11 might be a one step installation.

But, keys update took all night and still wasn't completed. Doesn't that suggest there's something wrong?

His experience doesn't make me anxious to go for the update.

As I understand it, kevs's update couldn't complete (overnight) until he initiated the second step in the AM.

Artie got it in one. I probably should have put the phrase "Each step has to be manually initiated." in bold type or maybe in color, so it would not be overlooked.

Yeah, I thought it was updating at night, but in fact, as Joe pointed out, it had not even started.

I'm not sure that is the case. After the initial "Agree…" I have walked away from the iOS 10 update and it completed on its own. There is a step where it asks if you want to install, but my installations had an automatic continue after 30 (I think) seconds.

That's been my experience with past iPad and iPod updates…I start the process, put the device down and come back 30 or 40 minutes later, and it's done.

Maybe it's different with an iPhone.
