¡¿Qué?! Perhaps a hint as to what "it" qua "hackintosh" might be? And why it might be something to be desired?

3rd link from the top of my Google search.

I prefer posting a search to a single link if only for the variety of comment on the search page.

9" Dell netbook, installed SSHD & 2GB ram, installed 10.5 1st, then 10.6.8, then 10.7....then Windows XP to repurpose the Hackintosh back into a Win Box for specialized software to monitor my 6.5L OBD 1 diesel engine in my RV.

An interesting exercise in making it work, but overall not a great result....the software all worked fine, but the keyboard layout and trackpad were physically hideous -- obviously, my Macintosh hardware experience has spoiled me for lesser results.

I've never done it myself, but I know several that have. All of them did it for reasons of not being able to afford (or justify the expense of) an authentic mac.

Most of them either gave up on it or bought a mac eventually because of all the hassles involved in keeping one running. Software updates break stuff continuously, iTunes is effectively impossible to to use, no app store, etc.

Here's a video of a guy doing it. Looks far too difficult for me.

Anymore, you probably won't save money building your own computer, whether Mac or PC. I don't have the time, patience, or tech savy to do it, though I like the idea of custom making a computer and selecting the components.

The biggest problem seems to be with software, not hardware.
