Did you install it by downloading directly from Adobe? If you did it via a third party, that might be the problem. Here's the link: Adobe Flash Player via Adobe. EDIT: You could try deleting Browsing Data And Settings via System Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced. Another suggestion is to follow the directions in How to Delete Flash Cookies
Caveat: I have never done the second one. I found that article via Google.

That link appears to be dated.....in our case, on the Macintosh with OS X, using Flash Version 21.0.0.226 (NPAPI) for the Safari and Firefox browsers (PPAPI required for Chrome) you simply need to open System Preferences and use the Flash PrefPane Storage Tab to manage the flash content stored on your computer.

The link specifies version 21.0.0.226. Why did you say that it was dated? That seems to be the latest version. I had used it to recently update Flash on my system, and the Flash pref pane says that that's what is installed.

Fixed it, at very end of plugs in shockwave flash was disabled, though I never disabled it.
What all the incessant problems and updates with Flash, why can't Adobe just have a preference to update behind the scenes?

Why bother when you can just set a pref? You can also check for updates from the same pref pane if that's your inclination. And Flash updates turn up on MacUpdate (which is where I generally get them) very soon after they're released.

ARtie, thanks, that is checked on the desktop, but still I get hassled. It was not checked on the laptop, so I checked it. Yeah, so they do keep saying need to update, need to update on the desktop even though I checked to not bother me, anyone else notice that?

I don't think much of Flash's pref pane in general; not when my "Block...." settings spontaneously revert to "Ask...".
I've got the pref set to notify me, but I'm not sure that it ever has.

And Flash updates turn up on MacUpdate (which is where I generally get them) very soon after they're released. Automatic updates are getting ever more dicey (from a security perspective). I've never done such (also for practical reasons). As discussion has gone in these forums, it's always wiser and more secure to go directly to the "horse's mouth" for updates. But, as they say: Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer choices.

I don't remember any problems with auto-update, security or otherwise, other than the Sparkle issue (which has been more or less resolved), and Flash doesn't even use Sparkle.
The only "go to the horse" talk I remember dealt with avoiding MacUpdate...which is sometimes the other end of the horse.
My personal pref is to never auto-update, because I archive installers at least until I'm certain that the next version actually works, and auto-update doesn't allow you to do that.

How often would you say flash ask to update. It's seems a lot! It seems to me a more pertinent question is whether Flash being updated so often because of bug fixes or security vulnerabilities and if the latter then do you really want or need Flash? There is no Flash on iOS and I have never missed it on either my iPad or iPhone.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Thanks Joe, I've never analyzed why Flash drives me crazy with so many updates, but now I know: bugs etc. I need it, all my 5 photo websites are still on Flash! The web deveolper has been saying for a couple of years they are working on a html5 version.
The design is beautiful, but yeah, Flash is a pita.

"Archive installers" means that I don't install, update, or upgrade apps without having an installer in hand that I save for an indeterminate period of time. (Edit: Flash is the lone exception to that rule.)
Not every update or upgrade goes as expected or yields results with which I'm happy, so I've always got the installer for at least one previous version available if I want to revert. (Edit: Previous versions are sometimes available from developers' websites, but more often than not they aren't.)
Archiving beats the heck out of auto-update and "Aw !@#$, what the %^&* do I do now?" if the new version doesn't work or doesn't work to my satisfaction.
And as for joemike's very valid point, like you, I still need Flash every once in a while and am stuck with it for the moment (not that I've ever run into any issues with it).

that's the download link, and will always offer the latest version even if you've already got it. The checker's here and will tell you if you need to download something (and will link you to it if necessary): http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Click on the 2nd link (Version Checker) in the previous post to see what you actually have installed.....it should be 21.0.0.226 to be correct for your system.

FF is 46.0.1 Flash test are up to date. I issue is Shockwave, and someone mentioned that Better Privacy is causing that, but that also seems to be up to date. so I'm stumped.

....so what you are saying is that you have a modified system (add-on) conflict with Shockwave, not Adobe Flash Player.....????

Shockwave Player and Flash Player are different animals. Flash Player is included as part of the Shockwave Player download. Shockwave - Flash Player Help will help elucidate the difference and may be useful otherwise. The plugin under Firefox's Add-ons is called Shockwave Flash. Check yours under Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.
