I use Ghostery only, but still have issues, I trusted forbes.com today, repeatedly, but they still say I have an ad block on. Is Ghostery the best for this? I'm open to suggestions. thanks.

I'm not sure what "trusted forbes.com" means; did you whitelist it?

Ghostery may be the ad block to which they're referring, particularly if it's the only such thing you use.

I just accessed that site and got the same message. Rather than experiment with all my extensions, I disabled them totally and then everything worked. In El Cap, go to the Develop menu, click Disable Extensions and then reload the page. In previous OS versions, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions and you'll see the way to disable them all. To re-enable extensions, uncheck that option in the Develop menu. Of course, you can try each extension one at a time, but apparently it isn't Ghostery that's causing the problem.

If you don't have the Develop menu enabled, you can do it via Safari > Preferences > Advanced.

1) Is Ghostery then still ok? Great software and I should not be looking for a replacement
2) I use Firefox. Anyway is this then more of a Forbes issue? If you are having same problem and we probably have different add on?

I use Safari, primarily. I rarely use Firefox. As to Ghostery, I like it and it's easily disabled if it interferes. I don't use Forbes so I can't comment.

I could not download billing statements from a major financial website if Ghostery was active even though the rest of the site seemed to work normally. Simply de-activating Ghostery was not enough to fix the problem, I had to deactivate Ghostery, then quit and restart Safari before the downloads would work. Ghostly support was not helpful and after experimenting with various settings proved ineffective I ended up deleting it.

At the moment I am using Wipr and my downloads work.

Joe, I could not download pdf from Citibank, and then figured out is was Ghostery. I whitelisted Citi, and it's ok now, but Ghostery does cause a lot of grief. Is there someone better?

Wipr is a competitor, never heard of them? You would recommend trying them out? Pity because Ghostery seems like a classy addon.

I found Wipr in Apple's list of plugins, so I decided to give it a try. As far as I can tell after a couple of month's use it is working well and has not interfered with anything I have wanted to do.

It is interesting to me that the Ghostery issues reported here all involve financial web sites. Forbes, American Express, and CitiBank. I have to wonder what they are doing that Ghostery is interfering with.

I'm a die wool Firefox guy, that app probably only for Safari?

Lots of websites require cookies to function, especially those that you have to login to access.

It would be nice if it would save them somewhere temporary and then throw them away when you close the window or the browser. I think that's how most people expect them to work, but they don't always go that way, at least not completely.
