DP 800, 10.4.11 can’t access my wifi base station.

For no apparent reason, my DP 800,10.4.11 can no longer access my Graphite Base Station. For years I have had no problems.

But this morning I lost access to my base station. I entered the PW as usual, but it did not allow access. I verified the PW in Keychain (and the base station name), but again I struck out. The machine is otherwise fine (or so it seems).

I have done the following, all unsuccessfully:

• Shut down with cold restart
• Zapped PRAM
• Safe Booted
• Created a new account/User
• Ran DiskWarrior
• Reverted to a week old backup, still no joy.

I can successfully connect to the base station with my iMac, so I am certain the base station works.

I know nothing about this stuff, but it now seems the problem is with the Airport card inside the DP 800. Is this likely?

What if anything else can I do to either isolate the problem, or better yet, fix the problem?

Many thanks!

Have you also tried resetting the base station itself? Can you try accessing something else from your G4? Like an available open network or even internet sharing on your iMac? Also, try dumping network and airport preferences.

Donikatz,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I have not reset the base station per se (via the pin hole on the bottom), but I have unplugged it and restarted it. Are you suggesting I try the pin hole routine?

AFAIK, I have no access to any open networks or internet sharing on my G4.

I'll try dumping airport preferences--can you please be more specific as to which ones?

Again, my thanks!

I think the prefs would be under /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/, probably called com.apple.airport.(preferences?).plist or the like.

Restarting it by unplugging is all I meant. I think the pinhole will restore to factory settings, so try the other things first, unless your settings are basic and don't require much effort to restore.

Is this an original airport card?

I've just discovered that I can not connect to my router if I enable 802.11n in any shape or form, with ibook 10.3.9 and original airport card firmware version 9.52

Mixed g and b work, b works, but that is it.

Jen,

It's the original card, about 8 years old.

I talked with an Apple tech at the VAR where the machine was purchased and he thought the card was bad, but without actual testing it, it was just a guess.

But I fear I will never know. After mucking about too long, I connected the machine directly to the router. This required some moving of furniture, but my wife is strong. cool

should've mentioned my previous post about this Both machines just suddenly quit connecting. Both had previously done so, but an electrical blip or something shut down the router(s) and then nada.

it would be useful to know if "can no longer access" refers to "doesn't list it", "can't connect to it", "doesn't get DHCP", etc.

Also helpful to test it with another base station to see if it doesn't see YOUR base, or doesn't see ANY base.

In the next few days, when my wife is not at her machine, I hope to better answer all the above questions.

Once again, thanks for helping.
