Not yahoo or Gmail. Preferably something simple that will work with pith helmet and Safari.

I was using macmail and it mysteriously went down for good.

MyWay.com
No ads, ever.
But, it's not completely compatible with Safari. You can use it for e-mail, but some features don't work.

I'd be wary of anybody who's not a major player because you never know when they'll disappear and take your email with them. What's wrong with Yahoo or Gmail? (I have a thread here about switching from Yahoo to Gmail recently and so far so good.)

I've been using MyWay for at least seven years. It wouldn't be a disaster if it folded on me. I'm not sure how long gmail has been around, but I think I started using MyWay before gmail was initiated. Major players go away too... Lehman Brothers, GM's Olds and Pontiac divisions.... etc.

Edit after reply #3763 posted:
I'm just providing the additional info about longevity for the OP. The commentary is free too.

Major players are far more likely to get bought out and converted rather than fold (see: RocketMail --> Yahoo, HotMail --> Microsoft). Also, nobody's losing their warranties on their GMs. Similarly, if someone bought Yahoo, Yahoo Mail users wouldn't be left out in the cold, they would either be maintained or converted. Because users are some of Yahoo's key assets.

Nobody's saying there's something inherently wrong with smaller providers (viva la choice!), just that they come with inherent risks. I've lost accounts at places several times, back in the day. Of course, Yahoo or Gmail or Microsoft could delete your account tomorrow (either by accident or claiming you violated terms) and you'd have little recourse. So online mail always has some risk, which is why I archive it every so often. So I guess if you do that, doesn't necessarily matter.

Still, what's wrong with Yahoo or Gmail?

Someone on this computer already has a gmail account, and I'm not too fond it. The problem with Yahoo is that the page doesn't render correctly, probably because of pith helmet.

Oh yeah, you did mention Pith Helmet compatibility. If I recall, that's for blocking ads. (?) Not sure if MyWay plays nice with your Safari helmet on. It doesn't require ad blocking, since it has no ads. Maybe that means the two won't interface.

What I like about pithhelmet is it "collapses" out the code with the ads in it, recovering mucho web page space, instead of showing a page that's 85% whitespace for the first page and last page due to all the blanked out ads.

Once you're used to pithhelmet, visiting web pages on other browsers can make you hardly recognize them... so much cleaner!

AdBlock Plus for Firefox does the same thing. And it works fine with Yahoo Mail. wink
