Yesterday evening a 2-hour special on the "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials" — 50 of the best commercials over the past 50 years — was broadcast (on CBS in the US and Global in Canada) and the above-captioned came in at #8.
They also presented a fair whack on its history and production — 3 minutes' worth + the 1-minute commercial.
While it may be old hat to some, I was intrigued to find out that it was directed by Ridley Scott (who had just come off of Blade Runner); it also met with severe disapproval from Apple's board of directors, but the producers and Steve Jobs prevailed, in virtually a Hail Mary play, and the ad became an historical turning point. Keep in mind too that it aired only once.

Sounds like foreshadowing of the board booting Jobs, and eventually bringing him back. A company being run by a board is a bad idea if they want to stay agile and visionary. Boards and committees often have a complete lack of foresight, only looking at how to improve their next quarter.
