10.11, SIMBL, & Rootless

To install cDock for use with 10.11, Rootless must first be disabled, to allow SIMBL to be installed, and then (re)enabled.

I am not keen on doing that.

If Apple does not want SIMBL installed, isn’t that I clue that I should not have it? If so, should I remove the SIMBL files I now have? confused

SIMBL is an extension used by third party developers of hacks and/or modifications to OS X such as Pithhelmet and others. To me it appears to create a hole in El Capitan's security wall that could be exploited by malware developers.

In short I would not be keen on installing it either. Why put up a wall to keep out intruders and then intentionally knock a hole in it?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

The problem is the city has just laid down cinder blocks all along my driveway "to keep out potentially harmful vehicles". That makes MY getting in and out of my driveway mighty inconvenient.

Security that is sufficiently inconvenient as to encourage users to disable/remove it, is security done wrong.

Since we (all) seem of the same mind, have you any tips re deleting the SIMBL files?

I presume one can merely trash any file with SIMBL in its name, or is this not so?

Harv's question apparently answers the one I asked a while ago..."Can a 'verboten' app be installed by disabling and subsequently re-enabling Rootless?"

I don't think I'd do it for SIMBL, which has had something of an unsavory reputation for years, but I was wondering about Xtrafinder, which seems to be benign.

Does you know if Little Snitch and AppleJack run into issues with Rootless?
