Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

I just noticed that when I open the Color Window to chose a color for something, the round Color Picker is solid black and stays black no matter if I use the slider on the right to lighten or darken. If I move the little square to change color the bar at the top changes to the color as does the slider on the right but the 'circle' stays solid black.

I have several other color pickers and they all seem to operate normally it's just the circle color picker that is stuck on solid black.

Any idea what the issue is? Maybe a corrupt .plist file?

Thanks,

the color remains constant between the options in the picker. what happens when you go to a different mode (like swatch) and pick say, red, and then switch back to the circle? does the circle change from red to black? (it should not change colors when you switch selection modes)

If I pick a color in any other 'color picker' option, crayons for example, and then switch back to the circle, that same color is in the color bar at the top and in the slider on the right, but the circle remains black.

what app is the color wheel in? sounds like an issue with the color picker in that specific app. (I thought the picker was an os x shared resource though?) Or is this affecting the circular picker in ALL of your apps?

next step is to create a new user and login as that user. if the problem persist, your os/system is affected and we need to go down that route. if the problem goes away, it's user-based and will require a completely different approach to fix.

OK, I created a new user account and it has the same issue when opening the color picker, just a big black circle. Guess that means it's an OS problem. BTW, I'm using 10.9.5 and thanks Virtual1 for helping sort this out. Obviously not a damaged .plist so I am guessing it's a corrupted color picker.

I have a complete clone of my system on an external HD so I could copy that color picker and swap it with the current one and see if that works.

As I said, I have a complete clone of my system on an external HD. I took a chance and copied the 'color wheel' color picker from my clone to my internal HD.

Works as normal now.
