OS 10.6.8 HP Officejet 4620 I have not used my printer for over 2 weeks. I downloaded LS july 5th and yesterday and today when I was checking my mail, the printer actually rumbled for several seconds (still switched off) with a noise I've never heard before. Could there be any connection because of LS? Could any of the deny or allow decisions affect the printer? jaybass

Too general a question, but if your printer is making noise every time you check for mail you can try turning LS off for a moment to see what happens.

I think I'd call "coincidence" on this one

Since according to Jaybass the printer was "…still switched off…" I would suspect someone's cellphone on vibrate near the printer.

artie, I have just finished printing the LS PDF (56 pages) some which don't concern me and some do seem a little formidable. You were right, I have been inundated with what to deny or allow. Apps like itunes, iphoto, and software I have purchased, are they safe to click 'forever'? One item that came up more than once,is CRSUD-swscan.apple.com which when I googled it has different opinions about allowing. I couldn't find a definitive answer. Do you have a rule of thumb regarding whether to allow or deny. There are several images in the PDF that I don't know how to access. Also I have checked both apple's and my servers mail twice since the incident and there is nothing to report. With my version of LS there is 32 default rules and now I've only added 2. jaybass

artie,Thanks for clarifying a few things. "Working with little Snitch" is very helpful. Those (4) paragraphs you composed make me realize than denying or allowing is really common sense and the longer you use LS, the more able you become. Regarding those images I mentioned, having another look through the PDF, I realize that if e.g "When LS encounters a connection attempt that is not yet covered by an existing rule, it shows a Connection Alert, allowing you to decide whether to allow or deny the connection" This I gather is when the pertinent image will appear? I am going to print your 'working with little snitch' and keep it for reference. Thank you again. aybass

Correct.

Little Snitch is neat in that it doesn't have to be updated as do anti-virus apps; if you pick up a "bug", you know it as soon as it tries to call home and LS alerts you, and your forever denial neutralizes it immediately. You could call it user-assisted self-updating.

Happy to have been (able to be) helpful. smile

artie, LS is becoming a little clearer now. I think I will become more proficient the more I use it. I really appreciate your input. jaybass
