Hi everyone, I was just directed here and am happy to find such a large group! Here is my question: Does any one know of any place I can purchase screw sets for MacBooks and MacBook Pros other than iFixit? They have been out of stock for quite some time. My specific model I'm trying to locate parts for is a model A1150 MBP 15" CoreDuo. Thanks for any ideas!
Any apple service provider or any apple store can order you those parts. There are DOZENS of different size screws in the macbook so you will need to be specific about what you need. There is no generic "screw kit", they sell them in bags of 5 of one kind. Considering what they are, they're kinda pricey. A bag could cost $5 or more.
It would be a good idea to supply them the serial number of your computer, they're hard to look up by model.

I've since contacted the nearest apple store, and was told that if I schedule an appointment with a genius, and bring the machine, that they "can probably help me out". So, next time I'm up that way, I'll try to test that out.
if you want to save time and can manage to describe what you need, I can supply you with part numbers they can order for you in advance. Doesn't sound like they are too clued in.
A lot of apple stores don't have intelligent techs there. ("apple genius" is sometimes an oxymoron on level with "military intelligence") Many apple stores for example don't "work" on laptops tho they do repair them. They mail them into the repair depot because they don't have anyone competent onsite.
A big red flag is if they will accept a laptop for repair but not a desktop. They can't mail in desktops and must be capable of fixing them themselves.
