I did a clone of my drive before updating to 10.10.2 (it took about five minutes to update a clone from yesterday).

I updated from 10.10.1 via Software Update – a 550 Mb download.

Then I cloned the new 10.10.2 system to my previous clone: it copied 3.38 Gb of new/revised files and took 28 minutes.

Must be a fairly extensive update!

(edit) Also, it would appear that you cannot apply the 10.10.2 combo updater to 10.10.1, only 10.10.

iMac (19,1, 3.1 GHz i5, 12.7.4, 40 Gb RAM); MacBook Air (1.8 Ghz, 8 Gb RAM, 10.14.6, 256 Gb SSD) Vodafone router and Devolo Wi-Fi Extender, Canon TS8351 printer/scanner.

Correct. That means that this Combo update differs form all previous ones in that it isn’t applicable to all previous subversions (even if there are only 2 in this particular case). And that's decidedly not good, as many Yosemite users have found out. With the next update we'll see if this is the shape of things to come or just a one-off. Let's hope for the latter.

This may be relevant to some users: How to force OS X 10.10.2 to install on your Mac

Wow! New ploy to save bandwidth? ( tongue or mad ...dunno yet)

Not just Yosemite users; running the Combo over an incremental is a long-standing successful troubleshooting technique.

It turns out that there is a Combo updater (840MB) requiring Mac OS X 10.10, and a separate delta updater (554MB) for Mac OS X 10.10.1. Loads of people complain about the Combo not working for them, presumably because they're running 10.10.1.

FWIW, in today's MacInTouch’s Yosemite Reader Report Michael Kemper noted a disruption in the Combo availability, but now it’s back up again. Perhaps the Combo was indeed found to be faulty and fixed, but I cannot test this as I already run 10.10.2.

There's always been a Delta and a Combo, but , as you noted, never before has the Combo been restricted.

I'm sure that either Topher or a successful poster will tell us when (very hopefully) it's been fixed.

There did seem to be some issue with the original Combo updater. A new one (1 MB larger) and dated January 28 is available at this Apple location.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

After reading your post, I downloaded the revised update and, yes, it works as one would expect. I still had a 10.10.1 partition that hadn't been updated and the revised update worked fine.

I ran the new updater again over the previous 10.10.2 install. It also worked without mishap. I cloned the drive over the previous one I'd made last night: 1.41 Gb of files were changed. I wonder what a combo updater does differently than a delta updater?

Anyway, back to normal.

Having said that, I still use 10.6.8 as my daily OS.

That Apple download location looks identical to the page I linked to above in post #32714 (where I rounded off the file sizes to whole MBs). The question remains whether the current Combo updates both 10.10 and 10.10.1, something I can't tell.

Looks like I missed Freelance's post while composing mine. His experience settles the issue. Thanks for the update!
