So, I scoured the web and can't find an answer. I use "Messages" (I wish they had kept it iMessages so it would be easier to find info). Anyway, my son's phone number has changed, so I changed it in my Contacts, removing the old one. But when I message him from my computer, I still get the choice of the old number, too. I restarted my computer and emptied the cache. It still shows up though not in Contacts. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Where does it show up, Rita?

A search hint in case it hasn't occurred to you: Including OS X in your search term limits the hits.

Hi there:

I used Mavericks in my search term to narrow it.

When I go to put in my contact's phone number, I get a choice of phone numbers in a drop down box. I want to get rid of the ones that are no longer good. There is no delete option even if I right click.

Is Messages maybe picking the number up from Address Book?

Edit: "Mavericks" may be too narrow a search term...excluding other OSs.

If address book is the same as "contacts", no because I deleted the old number.

No, I mean /Applications/Address Book.app; I know it interacts with Apple Mail, so I'm guessing about other possible interactions.

In Mavericks, the application formerly known as Address Book is named Contacts.

Thanks. (That should be the biggest adjustment I need to make when I'm finally forced to upgrade.)

That doesn't sound likely, Rita, but I can't be much more helpful than that from Snowy.

Maybe the cloud is responsible?

I don't use the Cloud.

Wow, you are behind the times! smirk But, I guess, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Unfortunately, we are all forced eventually to upgrade when nothing is compatible our old stuff. I hate when that happens!!

I'm not looking forward to the day I have to upgrade, so I'm making believe it's not there. laugh

The learning curve from OS 9 to OS X wasn't bad...similar stuff, different package, but when I finally upgrade past Snowy I'm going to have to deal with all sorts of new stuff that I don't need and don't even want.

As you say... Grrr!!! mad

For what it's worth, in Snow Leopard Mail it is under Window>Previous Recipients>Remove from List

Yeah, I had quite a time transitioning from OS9 to OSX. It was also difficult going from Tiger to Lion and onward. Each took me about a week to feel comfortable with. Lots of hair tearing and Grrrrrring. smile So, I hear ya.

The kernel and applications of OS X are all taken from Open Source projects that are freely available and/or Apple has released back into open source. If you truly
Quote:
…want your OS back
all you would have to do is download the various bits parts and pieces, create your own graphic user interface (or adapt one of the Open Source Unix GUIs to your liking), and you can have your own personal Snowy (you could not call it Snow Leopard) with no necessity of having to storm the castle. You could even adapt it to run on a cheap PC platform and save the cost of Apple hardware.

OK, getting back on track here, which cache did you empty, Rita?

And have you cruised the entire Messages menu bar, including Help, to see if there's anything applicable.

That phone number has got to be stashed somewhere!

So, just now I went under View (buddy names). I already had my contact's name in the "to" box of Messages. It gave me the choice to remove from chat, so I did. Then it showed up again. I tried it a couple of more times and now the old number is gone!!! Thanks Artie. I thought I had gone over everything but never thought to check the buddy list. Nothing really shows up under the buddy list unless their name is in the To box, because I never created a buddy list. Anyway, that's what worked for me. It's such a roundabout way of doing it, but at least it's gone. THANK YOU!!! grin
