This one's pretty weird. I've tested it many times and swear it is true.

1) When I put my imac into Sleep mode, it will sleep. But as soon as I get up from my chair, it wakes up. If I sit there while the mac is in sleep mode, it will stay asleep, but as soon as I move, it wakes up. I tried moving really slowly and carefully. Nope, it woke up. I tried not touching the table or turning the light off. Nope, it woke up. I tried moving my chair back from the table slowly and then getting up. Nope.

Maybe it's lonely and doesn't want me to leave.

2) It also seems to be going to sleep sooner than it is supposed to.

3) I am unable to wake it from sleep with my keyboard like I used to. I have to push the power button to wake it up.

Strange sleep problems.

Not that you likely haven't already, but recheck your mouse and sleep settings (preferences).

Are you using the hot corner with mouse to induce sleep?
It might be the sensitivity of mouse movement (as it is with mine).

If you use the power button to induce sleep, it won't waken when you move.

Thanks for the advice, but I've checked those things. I'm worried that this a sign that my mac is dying. My understanding is that sleep problems can be a big deal.

There is an app called "Should I Sleep" in the App Store that watches for movement and will not let the computer sleep or will wake it if there is movement (or sound or other indicators) but you would know if you had that installed.

I have encountered similar symptoms and like Grelber it always turned out to be an overly sensitive keyboard, mouse, or trackpad that I was inadvertently jostled it or the desk it was on when I stood up. I suppose it could also be caused by a loose or otherwise faulty USB connection that was joggled when I moved. Try unplugging your USB devices, including hubs, and turning off any BlueTooth or other RF devices one at a time and then stand up just as you normally do. Not only will you get a good cardio exercise from this, you will likely discover the errant device or connection. laugh

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?
