check MY spelling when I send

so mail's auto correct was getting annoying and I changed it to check when sending.

To my surprise, it starts flagging spelling mistakes in the quoted portion below what I have entered.

I really don't think it's necessary to correct OTHERS spelling in my emails. Is there a way to beat the dumb out of that?

That made me smile. grin

I guess that's the difference between "check while I type" (i.e., not what others have typed) and upon sending.

I have never seen anything to change the behavior you're describing. If it really bothers you, you probably need to switch to some third-party application.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Text is text. How is the spell checker supposed to tell yours from others?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

By default, the email text you're replying to is marked as quoted (by being indented). Perhaps Mail could not spellcheck quoted text?

That's exactly how I was expecting it to behave.

Sounds like a bug feature request to me!
