AirPlay mirroring

I Have an IPad mini running iOS6.1.3.
I am trying to play music on the iPad, and simultaneously via AirPlay to a remote speaker linked to an Airport wi-fi.
I can play music on them both perfectly well separately but I can't play them both at the same time (mirroring?).
Any suggestions?

I don't have experience with AirPlay, but I do have a July Macworld article about Airplay, and it makes what might be a relevant statement:

"Note that, when streaming audio from an iOS app, you can choose only a single AirPlay destination at any one time."

This could mean sound from the iPad or sound from the speaker, but not both at the same time. The article goes on to say that if you were streaming from a computer, you could have multiple destinations.

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Thanks for that, seems like it's the case.
