I need to edit some film clips together with some music for about 3 minutes of something I can post on Vimeo. Each will fade in and out. I have to add rolling type. Is there an easy, cheap program to do this?
Do you have your old iMovie? (did you ever have iMovie? )
I haven't checked, but I am always amazed when other people respond and say "oh, you can do that with Quicktime". Maybe you can. And you already have Quicktime.
On a Mac since 1984. Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.
I hate iMovie. I can't get the overlay transitions I want. I want more control over when one video clip fades in and the other fades out and how quickly and which one you see more of. Same with the music. Is Quicktime any better? It costs $30 to get the authoring features?
Which version of iMovie do you have? I know with the latest version, the Precision Editor gives you very fine control of edits and transitions. It takes a bit of practice to get used to it (since it's so different from the old iMovie) but it is very powerful.
Ah, I think that's the first version of the "redesigned" iMovie, and yes, it's lousy. The old iMovie was much better (and easier!) than the "new". However, they have improved it a lot since then. Might be worth a look-see.
I believe the latest that you can run is iMovie '09, but the numbering convention is so confusing I'm not sure exactly which version that is! It looks to be version 8, which is what you said you have, so I don't know... 10.7 and above is required for the latest iMovie (iMovie 11).
Hopefully someone else can shed some more light on this. Sorry!
