Smooth Scrolling In Safari?

Firefox 3.5.2 has a “smooth scrolling†feature/preference. Safari 4.0.3 has no such critter.
Indeed I really enjoy the smooth scrolling feature and AFAIK, it works as designed and has no detrimental side affects. I only wish that Safari might some day have this capability.
Is smooth scrolling in Safari not likely to happen because of an inherent design constraint, or, is it just another feature that the Safari developers have yet to include?
Please, no browser wars. I’m just curious why a (first-rate) feature in FF is not included with Safari.

Thanks for pointing out the smooth scrolling feature in Firefox. I never knew it was there. They should call it Cool Scrolling. Mark

If you feel it is a feature that should be implemented in Safari them post your request for it here.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

do you have Smooth Scrolling enabled in your System Prefs? it looks to me like it does have an effect in Safari, though it might be subtle.

Joemike, the feature suggestion/feedback to Apple, is a first-rate suggestion that I had forgotten about. Thanks for the reminder. My suggestion/feedback has just been dispatched.
Should I get a reply, I'll share with all.
Roger, yeah, smooth scrolling is enabled in System Prefs, but that has negligible effect (for me) in Safari. So as far as scrolling is concerned, I much prefer FF, but tis an issue I can live with.

Huh. I didn't even notice the option was there.
Back in the day of mainframes and dumb terminals, some terminals offered a "smooth scrolling" feature. I just tried it out in Firefox and I don't like it for the same reason I didn't like it in terminals--it slows down scrolling. When I'm using a Web page, I like to be able to go right to where I want; even the small delay caused by smooth scrolling bugs me.

Should I get a reply, I'll share with all. You will not get a reply, but every suggestion has to be logged and dispositioned. Dispositioning may be anything from writing it off -- with a reason -- to scheduling the suggestion to be worked as part of a future update. You have given Apple feedback, but the only feedback you will receive from Apple will be when or if the feature appears in a future release.

I can't imagine my input making its way in to 10.6.1, but 10.7, ah, that is more likely.
Thanks to you all!
