Just upgraded to GC 8.5, and now all my icons are blank. I just opened the DMG and dragged GC to my Applications folder. Got the message about an older item and clicked Replace.

So far I have deleted GC cache and preference files with no success. Have rebuilt the Launch Services database and rebooted a couple of time too.

Very bazaar and can't figure out how to get my icons back.

When you say, "…all my icons are blank" I assume you mean the icons you see on your desktop and in Finder? It is unlikely that a properly executed "drag and drop" installation of any app would be the proximate cause of losing the system icons. Try dragging ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop and then reboot. If that solves the problem then drag com.apple.finder.plist from your desktop to the trash and then empty the trash. You will, of course, have to reset all of your Finder preferences.

If that does not solve the problem, you can restore the finder property list to the preferences folder and replace the new copy that was automatically created when you rebooted.

Deleted the finder plist and that didn't work. I've owned mac's since 1986 so I'm not a newbie and I've 'dragged and dropped' hundreds of applications. I even deleted GC and downloaded another copy and still have the problem.

In case I wasn't clear the 'blank' icons only relate to GC such as jpg, gif, png etc.

Have you checked at the dev's site to see if anybody's posted anything there?

I just checked Mac Update, and noted the developer has now posted a new build to v8.5. The updated build is 1101. It may be best to get the new build directly from the GC site.

That should put things to right…

But does it?

My icons have returned. The developer sent me an email to download the new build.

Thanks everyone and Happy New Year.

though it has bugs, particularly with editing alpha channels, it's my graphic editor of choice, above photoslop etc. been using it for many years.
