Is Xfinity (Comcast) having network troubles?

I tried to change my password on Xfinity's (Comcast) web site. When I logged into my account and attempted to change my email password, the screen showed a translucent black "film" and a statement said "You do not need to change your password." When I tried to change my secret question, I got the same response. I have friends who use comcast cable who are having the same problem. Emails often wind up not being sent, but it is unpredictable. I called the local Comcast number and got put on permanent hold. Does anyone know what is going on?

Cable companies in general seem to have atrocious customer service. Comcast, MediaCom, RoadRunner.

They have a "franchise agreement" usually with the city they're in, meaning they have guaranteed no competition. Which means they don't HAVE to give you good service, because you don't have any useful alternatives.

You might have better luck calling one of their other departments (Sales, curiously enough, tends to answer their phone!) and see if you can discover a trick to ringing a tech that answers. Or tell them you want a "warm transfer", that's where they don't just hit (transfer)(line)(transfer) and transfer you to hold on your own... they put you on hold, call the other party, and transfer you to them when they answer. That way after you've been with the rep for 25 minutes and they still haven't gotten the other dept to pick up, a manager can say OK we've had enough of my rep sitting with you listing to hold music, and escalate you somewhere else.

I usually have no trouble by calling my local Comcast office, but they have been very busy lately ever since they admitted to me that there had been a massive fraudulent email sent purporting to be from Xfinity/Comcast that asked for password. I suckered for that because the forgery was so well-done, but when page two showed up and they wanted social security number, credit card number, and other personal stuff, I backed off fast and called the local Comcast number. The tech support guy gave me a new temporary password immediately to cut off access to my account and I then changed it to a more complex password that only I knew. Later, I tried to change it again because the complex one I had dreamed up was hard to remember and type easily. When I clicked to change the password, a black film showed on the window and the words "You don't need to change your password" came up. When I tried to connect the local guy again to see if that was Comcast or somebody else doing that trick, I couldn't get through. I decided to assume that it was Comcast's way of blanket freezing of password changes to prevent massive, illegal invasion of customer accounts. I haven't tried to go back and see if things are back to normal. I thought I'd give them a week before fiddling around with my account again.

Wow! How did you discover THAT page? Have you tried it? I'll hold on to this for my next round with Comcast. Thanks a lot.

I don't use Comcast so I haven't tried it. However, GetHuman can be very useful for many companies.
