Is there more than one way of checking which firmware I have in my D80?
I ask because all I can find is to open up the set-up menu and then the firmware option which on a nikon site shows it to be at the bottom of the list.
Problem is, the set-up menu on my camera is totally different and not showing that firmware choice. I have looked at nikon's latest firmware and how to install it but obviously I want to know what I have in case I already have it.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I can't answer your question but I can suggest that you phone Nikon tech support. In my experience, they have been very good.

Jon,
I finally found that menu. I had to use the commander wheel to get there and I do need an update which I am in the process of doing now. Thanks for your reply.
I also found (finally) the menu with FV Lock and after clicking okay, the icon does not show in my control panel. this I did several times with no joy.
I think perhaps I will contact nikon after finishing with this firmware update.
Thanks again,
jaybass

it's not always possible to find the firmware on the camera via the computer. It is almost always available on the camera itself however. There's usually an information menu option somewhere that includes that sort of thing, and it may also display other interesting information like power-on-hours, total shots taken, manufacture date, etc.
