Snowless Leopard please (Early Adopter Poll)

Unlike Windows PCs and their rich heritage of legacy support (for better or for worse), historically it's been pretty spotty which Macs can run a downgraded OS. Obviously this is because Apple's control of the entire hardware + OS silo allows them to force development forward without worrying about stragglers, whenever it suits them. Unfortunately, this is always a problem for folks with old software or companies with large deployments who need new hardware. In my case, managing multiple OSs throws another unneeded variable into workflow support. So... I'm very excited for the possibility of Apple actually releasing Leopard before new hardware announcements. This means we have a decent chance of being able to continue to run our standard Leopard builds on the new machines we're budgeted for in Sept (without having to scrounge around for old stock).

Then again, there's an Apple event rumored for Sept 9. Nobody's really talking about new Macs, rather new multimedia, but with my luck they'll do a minor almost-insignificant CPU bump just to change the firmware from supporting Leopard. Fingers crossed!

So, how many folks plan to be early adopters?

<Wish the forum software allowed me to insert a poll here...>

Define the choices and I'll add a poll.

Oy, I have to make decisions now? Hmmm...

A. Are you kidding? I already have it installed!
B. Will camp out overnight to get mine!
C. I'm washing my hair, maybe when I get around to it.
D. Meh, maybe when I get a new Mac at some point.
E. No thanks, I'm saving up for OS X 12.5 Battle Cat.
F. No thanks, OS 9 still runs great, thankyouverymuch.

Thanks!

Too early, man! I have mine preordered but no one in their right mind unless a developer would have it installed already with possible bugs still in the out... Please add the item "preordered" and I'll vote.

I'm with Alex on that one.

My pre-order with Amazon ships via the 5 day "free" mode, so while I won't be on the first on the block, I will be in the neighborhood.

I'll buy my copy as soon as it's available, but when I install it depends upon the reports of earliest adopters. I'll need to know if SuperDuper! and Adobe CS4 Design Premium work well with it. If not, I'll wait until they do.

For me, I need 10.6-compatible versions of Disk Warrior, SuperDuper, Print Therapy, Photoshop, MS Office, PDFpen and Nikon Scan. There may be others but this is off the top of my head.

I waited until 10.5.2 was out before upgrading to Leopard, waited similarly for Tiger and Panther and will do the same for Snow Leopard.

I don't know if Christmas qualifies as "early" but I'm thinking about it as a gift to myself. I've heard that a multi-license edition can be had for a reasonable price. But, I want three licenses, one for an iMac still running 10.4.x .... I wonder if that would have to be upgraded to Leopard first. If so, the "deal" might not be so great.

This just out from Apple
Apple today announced that Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard will go on sale Friday, August 28 at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

I'll probably get it next Monday, since I'm out of town over the weekend.

I'll do a full clone of the existing Leopard system drive first, so I can revert if necessary. My main concerns are Rosetta (just because it's there, doesn't mean it will work identically) and Parallels (which will probably update by early next week).

Then adopt away!

I just purchased Snow Leopard on the online Apple Store. The emailed acknowledgment states that it will be delivered Friday, August 28th. Quibbling with the terminology being used in some places, I would say that Snow Leopard is on sale NOW and will be delivered Friday.
