My iMac came with a Dashboard screen and a few pre-installed "widgets" (eg, calendar, calculator, weather panel).
Other than just having those little items sitting there in case of a case, what's the point of them? (And I've read Apple's description.)
The weather widget doesn't do anything, even when I am connected to the Internet; it's just blank, even though I've put a place name in (which, by the way, keeps reverting to Cupertino, CA). How very useful.
How would FTM's Dashboard widget be more advantageous than my using the bookmark already in my browser?

I often find that bookmarks are more convenient than Dashboard widgets. It's a question of personal preference. FWIW, one of my favorite widgets is Delivery Status. It's easier to use it than go directly to the UPS or FedEx website because it retains the information (even when the computer is shut down) and updates it whenever you launch Dashboard.

The use of Dashboard widgets really depends on your preference and needs. Several utilities are exclusively available as widget, and if you need any of those you might gravitate to the Dashboard. Other widgets are just handy or fun. Personally, I rarely use the Dashboard except for the odd item that's easiest taken care of there because of an exclusive widget.

Your comment about a contrary weather widget sounds like it (or its internet source or connection) might be florfed. FWIW, this Air Quality Health Index widget works for me. The availability of the FineTunedMac widget is simply a service to the Dashboard mavens among us. It's just one more option, that's all.

That would indeed be a nice item for those who get a lot of deliveries. (The only delivery I've had this year was my iMac.)

But the real feature is that "it retains the information". Good to know.
