Browser does not play music

Hope this is the right forum. A friend on Facebook gave me a link to her songs on MySpace. When I click on "Play", a new window with music player opens, the ad (Flash) loads correctly but the player does not load. In 2-3 minutes it shows "player temporarily unavailable". This is the same on 4 different browsers. I've run Onyx on full maintenance and no luck. However, the new admin account has Safari playing music OK; therefore, I have problems on the main account. Any suggestions on what to clean up/trash/rebuild?

Alex,

In Safari -> Preferences -> Security -> Web content, what is checkmarked?

Back up everything you can't afford to lose: documents, mail, movies, music, photos, and other data and settings.

Dianne,
I don't have web content under Security. Besides, the behavior is the same on several browsers, not just Safari.

Which version of Flash are you running?

I had some issues with the v.11 beta, so i went back to the latest 10.x which appears to be 10.3.183.7

I have like yours. to be sure, I uninstalled Flash Player, and reinstalled version 10 from Adobe site. No change. I think, since Flash is the same for main and test accounts, and test account works fine, something is wrong on the main one.
Now another problem. Wanted to run DW and found out that my copy was for SL. Downloaded an updater, got the new disk but it would not boot the computer. Can that be because it asked me for a CD to burn (original 4.0 was on a CD) and I did but the new computers can be booted only off a DVD? Just don't want to buy DW again for 100 bucks when I am entitled to a free Lion update...

It likely won't affect the current issue, but Adobe Flash Player 10.3.183.10 was released earlier today.

This is what I have (updated today).

The DW issue was resolved. They offer a 4.3 DVD upgrade for owners of 4.0 for 22 dollars (all included). The tech support guy claimed that the updated 4.3 disks from Tiger 4.0 would not start anything past Tiger, which is not true (done it through SL) and also claimed that the new disk will boot anything from Lion to down below (I guess, Leopard and Snow Leopard). So hoping to get a Lion-bootable DW soon.

Why don't you run DW from an HD from where it boots considerably more quickly?

I just found this on Alsoft's Website:

Quote:
07/20/2011 - DiskWarrior 4 version 4.3 Compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
DiskWarrior 4 version 4.3 was released in March and is required to run an installed copy of DiskWarrior while started from 10.7 Lion. If you haven't already done so, you can use the free updater for existing owners of DiskWarrior 4 versions 4.0-4.2. (Emphasis added)

What was the $22 fee for? (Did you opt to buy a disc instead of just d/l'ing?)

1. I did. However, I was not sure that the version on the external was for Lion (it dated back to February 2011). It seemed to work, although did not resolve my issue. The update disk that I created with their updater did not boot the computer. Was that because it was a CD (as it told me to insert) rather than a DVD or because the original OS was Tiger? Have no idea...

2. 22 bucks is for a new DVD that will work with Lion. They did not offer a download on this deal. Because I could not find a definitive info on their site as to what version of DW will boot newer Macs, I decided to get a DVD. Will post back when it comes, so I could tell you whether this is the same version as before or a newer one. To me, a lot of things are very cryptic when it comes to Alsoft. They don't update the program, they update disk for booting.

New questions. Since I have no feedback as to what to do with the browser problem, I decided to clone my work computer, which is very similar to the home one with a problem, and try to replace user library with the one of the clone. However, I am afraid to replace all of it (not sure if everything was customized in the same way), so will try stepwise. My inclination is to start with the preferences pertaining to Apple because it seems to be due to some system problem. Does it sound reasonable? I guess, I don't need to mess with the main Library or System/Library because the test account works fine. Or maybe replace the test account completely with the one from the clone and use it as the main one?

OK, problem solved. Copied from the home folder of a work computer clone everything related to browsers including preferences. All's well.

Your updated DW disc can boot only those Macs that your original v 4.x disc can boot (See below), but note:

The only way to get a disc that will boot Macs newer than those your original disc can boot is to pay the $22 for an updated version of your v 4.x upgrade.

They update the program as is called for by each new incarnation of OS X, but, beyond that, they must also update the "boot mechanism" as Apple releases Macs with updated ones, and they're not allowed to offer those "boot mechanism" updates as d/l's.

Bottom line, though, is that the updated disc you created, although it cannot boot your Mac, will run DW from a separate HD or partition (and not require the inordinate boot time of a DVD).

(Alsoft.com is almost as convoluted...as difficult to follow as is the Internal Revenue Code! confused )
