I just ran the "Lion flaw" Terminal command in my Snow Leopard volume with these results: Last login: Mon Sep 19 19:15:34 on ttys000
Artie-s-Computer-4:~ artie$ dscl localhost -passwd /Search/Users/artie
New Password: Hmmm... Same as in Lion. I'll boot into Leopard and report back.

In Snow Leopard, I was able to enter this command and get a New Password: prompt, but when I tried to enter a new password, I got a "Permission Denied" error message.

As expected, the Terminal command is a no-go in Leopard, too.

I haven't tried in Lion, though I suspect it'll probably behave like the report says--it'll work without the existing password.
One the one hand, with any computer security, if the bad guys get physical possession of your computer you're usually pretty much buggered. On the other hand, this is something of an embarrassing gaffe from Apple, especially considering how much work went into hardening Lion.

I tried it in Lion after the latest security update (below) and got the same as Artie. Nothing has been changed by 10.7.1 and the security update.
