I'm posting here because I can't pin this issue to a particular version of OS X.

My Early 2009 White MacBook/2.0GHz Core 2 Duo/4Gb RAM/OS X 10.6.7 (Build 10J869) will sleep if I invoke the Apple Menu or function-control-eject > S, but will not sleep based on my SysPrefs > Energy Saver settings.

I have
  • trashed HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
  • restarted
  • logged in to my test user account
  • zapped PRAM
  • safe booted
  • booted into my Leopard 10.5.6 volume
all with no joy.

The only on-the-markGoogle hit I found did not reach a solution.

Can anybody offer any insights or suggestions. (I'm not looking for a 3rd party solution such as is mentioned in the linked doc.

Thanks.

PS: I had turned "Safe Sleep" off and cleared its file in /var/vm, but clearing the above plist reset the pref and restored the file; my sleep issue manifested itself under both sets of circumstances.
