Hi:
My Safari set itself to default settings today without me doing anything. Some other stuff has happened like that but I can't remember what exactly. But it's acting weird. I also have to sign into Yahoo Mail each day instead of every two weeks like normal.
Any ideas what this could mean? Is something getting ready to go?
Thanks.

Rita,
Can you remember any of the other "weird" stuff? That might help.
The first thing that I would do is to log into a test account and see if the problem occurs there. That will narrow down the possibilities.

YEAH, but I didn't know where else to post it. Besides, I still feel like I'm at the beginner stage sometimes.

I don't remember the weird stuff but will pay more attention now. I do remember one thing. Yesterday my ClamXav window popped up for no reason. It never does that. It didn't say I had a virus or anything. Didn't say I needed to update it. It just popped onto the screen.
When I try to get into my test account, it says I need to change the password. Is that normal? Can I have the test account open at the same time as my regular account? It freaks me out to mess with my account. I don't want to screw anything up.

Rita > YEAH, but I didn't know where else to post it.Safari/All browser questions belong in "Networking." None of that-all sounds normal. Have you restarted since this all began? Try starting up in Safe Mode (What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?)This will perform some diagnostics, clear some caches, and may help you when you restart regularly. If you get any pop-ups, please make a note of what they say and let us know. You can only be logged in to one account at a time, so to log in to your test account you've got to log out of your boot account.

You can only be logged in to one account at a time, so to log in to your test account you've got to log out of your boot account. That's not quite correct. If you have fast user switching enabled (via System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Options), you can log in to another account without logging out of the account you started in. You'll have to authenticate to get back in to that account, and some applications or processes which can only function in one account at a time will be suspended until your return, but generally speaking, all applications and documents you had open will stay open in your absence.

Hi Dianne: Thank you for that. But, Artie has helped me a lot in the past. I think he was just teasing. But it's good to know I don't have to worry about using the Newbie forum. I'm not always sure which one to use, and that's when I use it. Rita Hi, Rita I am replying in my role as one of the moderators of the New Users forum at FineTunedMac. I have not restarted. Maybe tomorrow or if it happens again. I'm totally afraid of being locked out or having apps not work if I use the test account. Probably silly. Thanks for info. Of course, if I do get locked out, you will have to be my locksmith and get me back in!!! Rita I don't remember the weird stuff but will pay more attention now. I do remember one thing. I guess the most prudent approach to both your issue and your fear would be to clear your desktop of important projects before you start mucking about. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. [/quote] You're welcome. I cleared my cache and the problems stopped. Magical cache!! If it happens again and clearing the cache doesn't help, I will try the test account thingy. Keep your fingers sandpapered just in case. You never know. Rita

For the benefit of all, Rita, which cache(s) did you clear?

For the benefit of all, Rita, which cache(s) did you clear? OK, here I go again. And you said I didn't belong on the Newbie forum!!! I just clicked "Empty Cache" under Safari menu. I don't know how else to do it. Rita

Rita Thanks; I guessed that you meant Safari's cache, but I wanted to be certain. And give yourself some credit for both having realized that clearing that cache was a logical approach and for having located Safari's default method.

Thanks, Artie. The Yahoo sign in thing happened again. I guess I'll just live with it unless other things start happening again. Then I will do the test thing. Thanks for all your help. Rita I just clicked "Empty Cache" under Safari menu. I don't know how else to do it.

You might try deleting Yahoo cookies. You'll have to sign in again but that's not new.
