Slightly off-topic... Micromat used to offer a low-priced upgrade from TT Deluxe (as in AppleCare) to TT Pro, for which I can no longer find a link; has the option been discontinued, or have I overlooked the link?

Thanks.

Edit: This branch of posts was detached from TechTool Pro 6 and Lion?

artie,

Thanks for your question.

There is no link for the TechTool Deluxe to TechTool Pro upgrade on our new Website. People who are interested in that upgrade can contact our sales department by calling (800) 829-6227 or sending an email message to sales@micromat.com.

Thanks for the info; I hope never to need TTP, but I like to keep info on its availability handy.

This is Micromat's response to my query:

Quote:

You may upgrade to TechTool Pro 6 from TechTool Deluxe for $39.99 by visiting www.micromat.com and choosing the upgrade option.

Sincerely,
Jennifer

Acting on that, I opened an account with Micromat and initiated the purchase of a TTP 6 upgrade disc.

I qualified for the upgrade from Deluxe to Pro 6 by entering the "iBook Enrollment No." on the envelope in which the TTD 3.0.3 disc I received when I purchased AppleCare for my Late 2005 iBook G4 came...a 12 digit number.

However... I'm not certain what the equivalent number associated with the TTD 3.1.3 disc I received when I purchased AppleCare for my early 2009 MacBook is; there is no number on the disc envelope, and the only number I can find that may be the pertinent one is a 15 digit "MB/MB Air/13" MB Pro Registration No." that appears in said AppleCare documentation.

I hope other potential TTP purchasers find this helpful. smile

Meanwhile, Apple stopped offering TechTool Deluxe with AppleCare subscriptions: see today’s comment of Michael Schmitt.

They even removed the download page, even for users who have inforce AppleCare agreements purchased when TechTool Deluxe was part of the contract.

That last is a bit on the nasty side. frown

Oh, well... I guess all good things eventually come to an end (Consider how much less stuff is in the box when you buy a new Mac today as opposed to 10 years ago.), and the upgrade has always been pretty low-key and, I suspect, not overly taken advantage of, anyhow.

But anybody who's already got TT Deluxe can still avail hirself of the upgrade, although I have no idea if there's any time limit on when you have to have obtained TTD.

Aside: Since Micromat does not offer TTD as a product for sale, I guess it's extinct.

I wonder how many people who've owned TechTool Deluxe have paid full-price for TechTool Pro because they were unaware of the upgrade?

For a few years, we had a forum at MacFixIt Forums, then we had our own forums at our own Website. When TechTool Pro 6 shipped, MicroMat launched a new Website. It will have new forums shortly.

I never realized those were sponsorships; I thought they were merely "public service in the absence of our own forum" things.

If I had to pick two pieces of commercial software that screwed up computers... well there you have it... that's ironic. To this day I'm still ripping norton out by its roots on computers at least weekly. Thanks to the local university's IT staff that have been bamboozled into thinking macs absolutely have to have AV software, so much they require it be installed before allowing you on their network.
