Greetings and salutations to one and all.
I am a new Mac owner.
To put all into my level of understanding after 15 years of standard computers. I have been led to discover the joy of a Mac (Macbook) only just a few months old.
Up until now my understanding on PC's is that they make good paperweights.
This thought pattern is slowly changing.
I have joined in Second Life and have been learning how to play this game how ever the other night my internet dropped out. when it came back on I was unable to get back on SL I have been using Second Life Viewer 2, I have done everything I can to see what the issue is and asked as many people I know for advice. For the moment I am using Phoenix Viewer.
Is tere anyone there who can tell /advice me on what I have done wrong etc...

I'm not a gamer, but I do own a MacBook...a great machine as you'll find out when you get past your problem, so don't be too quick to "miss" your PC.

For starters, please tell us in excruciating detail what happens when you try to log in to Second Life... What, precisely, do you do, what happens at every step along the way that is unexpected, what pop-ups or error messages do you see, etc, etc, and so forth.

With some additional info well be able to get a better insight into what's up.

OK... I can't resist one possibly dumb question:

How did you log in to Second Life before your Internet went down? Did you have to d/l a new viewer app every time you logged in?

From what you have written here, it sounds like you are running Second Life from inside a disk image.

This is a common mistake that many people new to the Mac make. When you download most Mac software, you download a "disk image" which is a .dmg file. When you open the dmg file, an icon appears on your desktop. The icon contains the program you downloaded.

Think of the disk image the same way you would think of a CD. When you get a program on a CD, you put the CD into your computer. A CD image appears on your desktop. You then copy the program off of the CD onto your hard disk in order to use it.

It is the same with a disk image. When you download a disk image, a disk image icon appears on the desktop. It is not obvious, but you must copy the program off of the disk image and into your Applications folder on your hard drive in order to use it. You can then drag the disk image icon to the trash and throw away the .dmg file.

From what you have said there seems to be an understanding there that I can relate to.
How ever I still have not been able to log on.
When I first downloaded 2nd Life I had no issues getting on. It was not until the internet dropped out that this issue started. and now as U may
to understand I can not even open the viewer.
How does one like myself go about getting the programme from the image to the hard disk.....
Damn things are difficult when U do not understand.

You've left me no option but to d/l Second Life Viewer 2.5.1.222408 to see what I could see, and I do not see what you're seeing; I had no trouble opening the dmg or launching the app, so I'll guess that something got corrupted when your Internet went down. (Out of curiosity, were you logged in to Second Life when that happened?)

For starters, try starting up in Safe Mode (What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?) and see if you can log in to Second Life with the Viewer you should already have installed on your MacBook from your first go-round. (There should be no need to d/l it again as you've apparently been trying to do.)

If that works, restart normally and see what happens.

Keep us posted, and we'll escalate to the next level if necessary.

Yeap I was in S/L when it happened.
Ok I will try to start in safe mode and see what happens...
