I haven't even cleared cookies, so why does my FTM Forums Index page show every post ever posted as being unread, i.e. the red numbers equal the number of posts?

Edit: Once I visit a forum, click back to the Forums Index, and refresh, the red number goes away.

Edit 2: The red numbers only appear on the Forums Index page, not on the individual forum pages.

At MFIF that red number oddity was often related to server work/hiccups. One discussion: forum weirdness solved by deleting cookies

Whatever the cause I suspect the fix of starting a new session will work here as it did there. To try that, take a break from FTM to let your current session expire, delete FTM's cookies and log in again, log out and back in, or relaunch your browser.

I already visited every forum and refreshed afterwards, and the red numbers disappeared and haven't recurred.
