I like the interface of this site: http://www.whois.sc/but it seems it only show the register info. Don't who is sites show who is currently hosting a persons website? I'm researching a site...

Whois records will show you the name servers for a site, which will sometimes let you know something about the host. For example, the whois my Web site www.franklinveaux.com shows you that the name servers are at hostgator.com, which lets you know that I'm hosting with Hostgator. However, that won't always give you useful information about the Web host. For that, you need to do a lookup of the IP address for the site and then look in the ARIM or RIPE registries to see who owns that site. Or, better yet, use www.spamcop.net. You'll need to sign up for a free account, but when you do it will show you the IP address and Web host for a domain name.

Click "Register Now" under "Report Spam". When you log in, you'll see a place where you can copy and paste spam. If you just type a Web URL there instead, you will be given the registered abuse@ address for that domain, which will tell you who the host is.

Fascinating. It says, abuse@godaddy.com Using best contacts fblreports@godaddy.com
In short, this site, which is using domains by proxy (which hides all their info), I can say 100% their web hoster is godaddy?

Yes. The site is being hosted by GoDaddy. *That fits; Domains By Proxy is GoDaddy's domain cloaking service, so the domain is registered there as well.)

You da Man Tacit. I don't know how you know all this stuff, but I'm glad you do! How does spamcop decipher that?

Spamcop first does a DNS query to get the site's IP address. It then looks in various databases to figure out what Web hosting company owns that IP address. Every Web host is assigned a pool of IP addresses, so if you know what Web host is responsible for the IP address that a site lives on, you know who's hosting the site.
