Password required but not accepted

I keep getting asked for my password for almost everything that I do on my mac , this is something that has recently srarted. I put in my password , but it says it's the wrong one - i know it's not !! i cant even get into the keychain access to change the password , i restarted the computer usind the disc and changed the password there , my wife typed in to confirm i got it right the first time , it's still wrong . now my hard drive and idisc are not on my desk top. this is a toughie .

Did you repair permissions? Yes, some people think that this is voodoo but sometimes it actually works.

In your Desk top looks ... thread you found out how to set your Finder preferences to not show your HD and iDisk on your Desktop, so I'm guessing that part's unrelated to your password trouble.

you almost certainly recently reset your password with your restore disks. (or someone else did for you)

If you can confirm this, we'll walk you through the fix.
