iOS 17.3 beta 1 has another new security feature for users with specialized security needs.

When activated, this feature requires both the passcode and face recognition for access to the keychain. Sort of an on device two-factor authentication (2FA) system. In a quick test this morning, it was virtually unnoticeable in operation.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Did I also read that this feature can be set so that it is required every hour (or some time interval)? That way the bad guys cannot use you once and then dispose of you. wink

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Good question, does this screenshot answer it? The only option under Require Passcode is "Immediately" and if you click on "more information" you get this. Remember, this is iOS 17.3 Beta 1. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As far as use you once, if you have "Require Attention for Face ID" turned on you have to be conscious to make the face ID work at all.

Your first screenshot addresses the question. The iPhone will learn your "general locations" and if you are away from those it will impose a one hour delay to make certain setting changes. I can imagine situations when that security feature also becomes a real pain.

In the current beta version, there is no indication of how long the delay is.

You have a better imagination than I do.
