Does anyone know what features have been dropped or discontinued from OS16 in moving to the new OS 17 for iPAD?

Many thanks,

I did the upgrade and have not noticed anything that was dropped. It is always possible that some apps may need to be updated, but so far I have not encountered any problems. I also found this comment online:
"I’ve been running iOS 17 since the beta. There aren’t that many drastic changes where it would make a huge difference. It’s just not a major iPadOS update this time around."

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Thanks for the info.

BTW: Are we still able to login (on the iPAD) using a PIN, or are we forced to give our fingerprints to Apple’ s Big Brother?

Many thanks,

I have been running iPAD 17, iOS 17, WatchOS 10 since June and the biggest thing I can say is along with Sonoma they are the most stable and solid OS versions since the original OS X public beta. As to the fingerprint question ther is a distinction between LOGGING ON and UNLOCKING a sleeping device.
  • Fingerprint authentication requires a hardware fingerprint sensor. You will find those on MacBooks, some keyboards used on Mac computers, and some low end iPhones and iPads regardless of what OS version they are running.
  • Any Apple device with a front facing lidar camera can use facial recognition to unlock
  • iOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS devices require a PIN to logon
  • MacOS devices require a password logon
  • Logged on MacOS devices will unlock if there is an unlocked Apple Watch within bluetooth range
  • There is no REQUIREMENT to use anything other than a PIN or PASSWORD to logon on unlock any Apple device Fingerprints and facial recognition are convenient and secure shortcuts

All of this has been true for a while now. THE ONLY THING THAT IS NEW IS…

AN APPLE WATCH RUNNING WATCHOS 10 WILL LOGON IF THE ASSOCIATE IPHONE RUNNING IOS 17 IS UNLOCKED AND WITHIN BLUETOOTH RANGE WHEN YOU PUT IT ON.

I am up to iOS 17.1 beta 3 and I still keep discovering handy new features. No game changers, but lots of handy items such as automatic grouping of items on a grocery list. Even if you are an old time Macaholoc like me or perhaps especially if you are an old time Mac user keep the Tips app open for new ideas you weren't even aware you needed.
