Since upgrading to OS 12.6 and Safari 16 (17614.1.25.9.10) a couple weeks ago, I am having an issue with Safari. After some period of use, opening and closing, Safari with not open and if I hover the cursor over the Safari Icon it says 'Application not Responding' and it just refuses to open. I do a forced quit, but it will not open after that. The only way to get Safari operating again is to reboot my Mac mini. This happens about once a day.

My first thought was to download Safari 16 again and reinstall it but I can't seem to find a download link on the Apple website. If someone has a link to Safari 16 and/or another solution for my issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I've got issues with Safari 16, but yours isn't one of them.

There is no freestanding Safari 16 d/l. The only way to reinstall it is to rerun the 12.6 installer.

Any idea if reinstalling 12.6 would cure the problem or could it lead to other issues?

Thanks

Neither I nor anyone else can answer that question any more authoritatively than by saying "Got me beat!"

On the one hand, I wouldn't expect any new issues, but on the other hand, I wouldn't have expected the one you've got either.

You might try downloading Safari Technology Preview and if that shows the same problems it would at least rule out Safari or Webkit as an issue.

I am now thinking that the problem must have been a corrupt temporary file/data. Initially I got the 'app not responding' at least once a day for several days. Since posting it has happened only 1 time right after I posted but none for the past several days.
